Here are some updates that I would like to share with The Daf Map community.

I wrote this on December 2022, and a lot has changed since then.

For example, since then, the number has changed from 250 to almost 350. We (well, me, for the editing and video creating part) are not able to create the finished product in time for the goals stated below, nor for the goal of producing them on time. They take quite a while to create the videos and with Pesach and the following Shabbos, we fell behind, so the goal was changed to putting them out as we can.

QuoteI would like to take a moment to share the story of how I got started with becoming the "EdiTorah" for "The Daf Map."

Ben messaged me about a new website of his and I immediately asked how I can help. He mentioned that he needed some backend website help and I quickly realized that it is not in my skill set and I asked if he had anything else that he needed help with?

He responded that indeed he did need help with video editing for the Gemara's. I started in the middle of Meseches Yevamos, with a program that was not at all easy to use, and then we discovered "Shotcut," and I now use it for every video. It was during that time that I started learning how to edit the audio portion of the video that I simply added the appropriate daf to match and not much else. Later, I learned (thanks to Ben's professional advice and when he felt I was ready to learn a specific aspect of the editing process) how to transition between different graphics and aspects of the audio-edit process. There's a gradual improvement from the first videos I edited to the current ones. I try to make each one better than the previous.

Around Kesubos 68, I had a couple of weeks where I was able to focus more on the editing and less on my day job. During this time, I discovered that, because I have more time to spend, I could upgrade the quality of the videos. I discovered that by taking a screenshot of the side margin notes the "Nosay, Mivneh" for example and editing it in a program (Paint 3D is what I currently use), I could transform the notes that was limited by the margin space and recreate it visually by rearranging the text to be read in a clearer manner.

I also realized that I could do the same with the commentaries that the Magid Shiur is speaking about and present it visually so the viewer can see it nice and big to make it easier to read which is a contrast to the "Tzuras Hadaf" which is just there while matching the audio (by the way, on the gigantic wall screens, it is easy to see, even from a distance).

With each video, I try to make the next one better and add innovative ideas as they occur to me, with the Big Boss' help.

The journey has been exciting, nerve-racking (did I do a good job?) and I'm thankful for all the positive feedback that I'm getting that it helps me to relax knowing that people like it.

I recently edited my 250th video and I'm happy to hear people say that they're learning more because of it.

My next goal is, with The Big Boss' help, to be consistently 10 dafim ahead!

Please share your thoughts, comments, and suggestions for future videos. What would you like to see in the video?

Yours Truly,

The EdiTorah

Some updates:

We changed the layout for the forum Daf pages, starting with Gittin and Kesuvos and some of Sotah. I'll be adding the dafim for those mesechtas on a regular basis.

We have included the mp3 for English and Hebrew, together with the Tzuras Hadaf, we hope you enjoy the new layout.

I'm working on editing the lectures for Gemara Sotah, and possibly finish Nazir, with the Big Boss' help, and then go on to the next Mesechta project. The amount of time that it takes to edit the lectures, at this time, doesn't allow for being up to date for the Daf Yomi, we would be starting projects (i.e. a Mesechta), then stop and go to the next one, which would put us further back.

Some of the Hebrew mp3 links to the Daf postings may not be working because they were all updated; eventually, this will be corrected.

If you or someone you know is interested in helping us out on the forum (or with anything else, too), please reach out to us by replying to this thread, or sending an email to thedafmap@gmail.com.

I would like to share this thought with the Daf Map community:

I learned how to edit these lectures using a laptop and a mouse, with guidance. People have told me numerous times about the zechus that I have in helping people learn more Gemara than they would have had. I for one, am also one of those people.

I have received complements from people telling me how much better the editing version is, compared to the "raw, unedited" version.

The editing and creation of the videos takes a lot of time to complete.

Imagine the zechus that you, who is reading this, could get, if you yourself help out with the editing, or if you are the one who helps find that second (or third, etc.) person who can help with the editing too! It would also be much faster to create the videos with more people helping out.

If you have a laptop and a mouse, and would like to learn how to edit, then please reach out to us.

On another note, people have been mentioning that they join lots of other groups and this one would be "just another one". Well, this is not "just another one", this is a group that is being actively created to help spread the Torah of Rabbi Berger Shlita. Due to certain restrictions at this time, being a member is the only way to view the attachments that are being shared, with each posting of the Daf.

Of course, you can view the attachments manually by clicking on the PDF links, or on the website. Just that being a member, will make it easier for you to access the PDF links via the attached GIFS, (as well as recieve important updates, if you so desired).

Update on the attachment situation: We have decided to remove all the daf attachments because of potential future lag. The PDF's are the best way to access the Dafim.

When it says

QuoteVideo streaming: [Link will be added here when available]

You can check the website for that Mesechta to see if it's available even before it gets updated with the link, here on the forum.

All the Kesubos dafim have now been added to the forum. I also updated the chapters to the Kesubos YouTube playlist. The chapters in each of the Kesubos videos will definitely make it easier to find the daf and amud within the video.

With Thanks to the Big Boss!

Adding the forum pages for Bava Metzia when  the Hebrew lectures are added to the main site. This will help to avoid unnecessary errors of links.

Update: Done till Daf 60 (of 119).

Update: completed the Bava Metzia pages.

Hello Daf Map community.

Here are a few updates:

Subscribe and share our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@thedafmap/

Read this short story that happened to our Website creator: Open Miracle

We plan to update the pages for Nazir and Sotah.... However...

It appears that when the forum went offline recently, and it was not working, that some of the forum pages, for example - Nedarim has all the individual dafim missing, and Nazir has many pages missing (hopefully this can be figured out and fixed, with Hashem's help). We are working to figure out what happened to them.

Hello Daf Map Community:

We have a few updates to share.

1.    We are excited to announce that we are almost at the point of a siyum on Maseches Nazir, you can see the playlist of these videos for the entire Tractate here.

2.    It was mentioned in our last posting that we'd like to do Bava Basra next, however, we decided to switch to another Tractate, instead.

3.    The next Masechta that we will be focusing on is Sanhedrin. We will be posting information on sponsoring these videos, shortly.
